Broadband Moving Away From Consumer Broadband Services
Bulldog Broadband which is owned by
Cable and Wireless have decided to move out of the consumer broadband market and
concentrate on wholesale broadband instead. In the year up to March 2006 Bulldog has lost
100 million pounds on a turnover of £33 million and Cable and Wireless no longer want to
continue funding their Bulldog broadband services based on this loss, as well as other
factors such as the increased competion and potential price wars with other companies such
as the Carphone Wharehouse's Talk Talk who announced free broadband services when
customers sign up with their Talk3 International package.
Bulldog Broadband have also had a lot of
customer complaints about their service, with some customers have to wait several weeks to
get their broadband connection. Bulldog broadband have also had to undergo an Ofcom
investigation due to the number of complaints over the past year.
Bulldog broadband will now concentrate
on the broadband wholesale market and will become a supplier of its competitors, but will
also continue to serve its existing broadband customers and hopes to improve its customer
service by concentrating on them without the need to serve new customers.
150 jobs will be lost at Bulldog
broadband due to this change, these job losses will come mostly from marketing and sales.
