What Is Antispam Software & What Can It Do For Me?

Antispam software helps you deal with all those annoying spam email messages you get in your inbox everyday trying to sell you stuff you are not interested in. Antispam software reduces or eliminates the amount of spam that you see everyday and this can be done in several different ways by antispam software.

Some antispam software uses Blacklisting for stopping spam and what this does is the antispam software identifies the the computer address (IP address) of the spammer and then tells your internet service provider to block email from that address. This stops a lot of spam, but some spam may still get through as the most ardent spammers counter this by continually changing their computer address.

Another method some antispam software uses is known as Spam Votes which is where you the user tells the software (usually just by pressing a button marked "spam") that the email is spam and then it blocks all email coming from that email address or computer IP address.

Bayesian Filtering is one more antispam software method and what this software does is continually learn new techniques to combat spam by reading it and comparing it to email you have not accepted. The software also uses data it has gathered from thousands of users to help identify spam.

Profiling is another antispam method which basically learns the common characteristics of the spam email and spammers that you are getting and assesses the probability of it being spam or not and gives it a rating, you then decide the rating level at which you let your email through or not.

Antispam software is not an essential thing to have but it can help save you time by greatly reducing the amount of spam you get.
